Feb. 23, 1955: Born in Cleveland

1973: Named Ohio Class A High School Player of the Year, averaging 32 ppg

1973-77: Four-year Gophers point guard, starting 101 of 103 games

1977-81: Golden Valley Lutheran College head coach (92-13 record)

1981-86: Gophers assistant coach

1986-88: Tulsa assistant coach

1988-95: CBA head coach for Rapid City, La Crosse and Sioux Falls (253-137 record)

May 11, 1995: Named Timberwolves general manager

Dec. 18, 1995: Named Timberwolves head coach

Feb. 12, 2005: Fired as Wolves coach (411-326 record that included eight consecutive playoff berths)

July 21, 2005: Hired as Pistons head coach

June 3, 2008: Fired as Pistons coach (176-70 record, reached three consecutive Eastern Conference finals)

April 14, 2009: Hired as Wizards head coach

Jan. 24, 2012: Fired as Wizards head coach (51-130 record)

2012-13: ESPN basketball analyst

May 3, 2013: Named Timberwolves president of basketball operations

June 6, 2014: Agreed to become Timberwolves head coach in addition to his front office duties

Aug. 23, 2014: Traded Kevin Love to Cleveland in a three-team deal that brought the Wolves the last two No. 1 overall picks — Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett — plus veteran Thaddeus Young.

June 25, 2015: Wolves select Karl-Anthony Towns with the first overall pick, and make a trade to add Duke's Tyus Jones, an Apple Valley prep star, with the 24th overall pick.

Aug. 11, 2015: Saunders said he has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Sept. 11, 2015: Wolves announce Saunders has been hospitalized, and say Sam Mitchell will assume head coaching duties and GM Milt Newton's duties will be expanded.

Oct. 25, 2015: Team announces Saunders' death.
