Q With the fast thaw and spring rains, our sump pump is running frequently. The discharge just goes to a place in the yard. Is that acceptable? Where should a sump pump discharge?
A Contact your city offices for specific directions.
In Golden Valley, for example, sump pumps should drain into the city's storm sewer system through a direct connection (a pipe from the house to the main storm sewer line) if available or directly onto the ground (preferably 20 feet from the house and not into a neighbor's yard).
Reverse the shine Q How do you restore velvet that has become flat and shiny?
A Most velvets tend to flatten from wear, creating a shine on the fabric. Sometimes a dry cleaner can restore the fabric by steaming it from the reverse side and lightly brushing it.
Cotton- and silk-based velvets usually wear the longest, while acetate velvets tend to flatten more during wear and cleaning.
