Today's trophy tales
Lindsay Effertz, New Hope • 41-inch muskie • Nest Lake
Lindsay Effertz was spending some time at the cabin near Spicer, Minn., when she caught her first muskie. She was casting a No. 5 Mepps spinner from shore and looking for pike. After no luck, she cast into the open water and soon hooked this muskie.
Spoon fed: Luke Welter of Ham Lake was fishing off his grandmother's dock on a lake near Floodwood when this 31-inch northern — his biggest catch ever — hit the spoon he was using.
Sunday catch: Ashley Benage of Glencoe caught this 25-inch walleye on May 24 on Leech Lake's Hardwood Point near Sucker Bay. She used a leech to catch her biggest walleye.
A double handful of panfish: Nate Moberg of Clinton, Minn., caught this 1.2-pound, 10-inch bluegill on Sunday from his family's dock on Big Stone Lake. His bait was a worm.
