U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson in Hawaii decided to extend his order blocking President Donald Trump’s travel ban. Watson issued the longer-lasting hold on the ban just hours after hearing arguments. The state says the policy discriminates against Muslims and hurts the state’s tourist-dependent economy. The implied message in the revised ban is like a “neon sign flashing ‘Muslim ban, Muslim ban’ ” that the government didn’t bother to turn off, state Attorney General Douglas Chin said.

After being unceremoniously dropped from Trump’s transition team, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will lead a White House commission to fight drug addiction. He has made fighting heroin and prescription drug abuse a centerpiece of his administration.

The Senate Intelligence Committee will begin as soon as Monday privately interviewing 20 people in its ongoing investigation of Russian involvement in the 2016 election and potential ties to the Trump campaign, its leaders said. Committee Chairman Richard Burr, R-N.C., and Vice Chairman Mark Warner, D-Va., refused to comment on the political discord that has stymied the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation.
