Field goal in overtime lifts Augustana over Mankato

Ryan Grossman's 33-yard field goal on the fist series in overtime lifted Augustana to a 41-38 victory over Minnesota State Mankato on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Grossman's 38-yard field goal with 7 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter tied it at 38-38 for the Vikings (4-2, 2-0 NSIC).

Augustana led 35-14 late in the second quarter before the Mavericks scored 24 consecutive points. Kelvin Rodgers' 93-yard punt return for a touchdown gave the Mavericks (4-2, 2-1) a 38-35 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Joe Clark led the Vikings with 214 yards rushing on 29 carries, with three touchdowns. He rushed for 174 yards in the first half. Ryan Fick passed for three touchdowns for Mankato.

Southwest Minnesota State 35, Winona State 28: Josh Shudlick completed a touchdown pass and two-point conversion pass with 3:31 remaining, lifting the host Mustangs to a victory that ended a seven-game losing streak to the Warriors.

Winona State trailed 27-14 early in the fourth quarter before scoring twice in a 2:38 span to take a 28-27 lead with six minutes remaining.

Shudlick's 23-yard touchdown pass to Blake Wilson capped a six-play, 75-yard drive. Wilson also caught the two-point conversion pass. Shudlick completed 27 of 38 passes for 294 yards.

St. Cloud State 48, Bemidji St. 14: Mitch Watkins passed for three touchdowns, and Michael Graham rushed for two touchdowns in leading the host Huskies to a fourth consecutive victory, their longest winning streak since 2005.

Minn. Duluth 52, MSU Moorhead 10: Ted Schlafke produced four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing), and Isaac Odim rushed for three touchdowns to lead the visiting Bulldogs, ranked No. 10 in Division II, to victory.

Concordia (St. Paul) 17, Mary 7: The Golden Bears ended a six-game road losing streak with a strong defensive effort in Bismarck, N.D. Dalton Outlaw returned an interception for a touchdown for Concordia.

MIAC Carleton 21, St. Olaf 7: Matt Frank caught two touchdown passes, helping the visiting Knights end an 11-game losing streak to St. Olaf. Frank's second touchdown reception gave the Knights a 21-0 lead with 1:33 left in the first half. Frank had 11 receptions for 131 yards. Carleton's Shane Henfling passed for 262 yards and three touchdowns.

Bethel 14: St. John's 9: Josh Aakre and Logan Flannery each rushed for a touchdown, and the Bethel defense forced three turnovers en route to a victory at Bethel. The Johnnies' final drive ended at the Royals' 2 as time ran out.

St. Thomas 30, Gustavus 22: Ben Wartman rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns for the Tommies in a victory in St. Peter, Minn. Wartman's second TD gave the Tommies a 30-14 lead with nine minutes remaining. Jordan Becker passed for 313 yards and two touchdowns -- including a 99-yarder to Chad Arlt.

Augsburg 24, Hamline 21: Jordan Berg passed for 311 yards to help the Auggies outlast the host Pipers. Augsburg trailed 14-0 in the first quarter, but scored 24 consecutive points to take a 24-14 lead entering the fourth quarter. James Leary rushed for two touchdowns for Hamline.

Division I-AA North Dakota State 35, Southern Illinois 27: The Bison rallied from 20 points down with a dominating second half to beat the Salukis in Fargo, N.D. Tyler Roehl rushed 26 times for 125 yards for NDSU, which trailed 20-0 late in the first half.

The result spoiled a return trip to the state for former North Dakota head coach Dale Lennon, who took over the Southern Illinois program this year.

McNeese State 46, South Dakota St. 44 (3 OT): The Jackrabbits' JaRon Harris caught three touchdown passes, but the fourth-ranked Cowboys stopped him on a key two-point conversion run in the third OT in Brookings, S.D.

UMAC Crown 51, St. Scholastica 13: Adam Hayes passed for 272 yards and three touchdowns in leading the visiting Storm.

Northwestern (Roseville) 49, Macalester 13: Zach Tarter passed for 285 yards and four touchdowns for the visiting Eagles in a nonconference victory.

Martin Luther 35, Minn.-Morris 7: Andrew Becker rushed for 185 yards and scored on runs of 66 and 59 yards for the Knights in Morris, Minn.
