FDA's Shuren to speak at conference

AdvaMed lines up heavy hitters

July 18, 2011 at 3:06PM

The hottest ticket in Washington, D.C., these days is the annual AdvaMed 2011 conference luncheon Sept. 28. So far, former President George W. Bush and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels have confirmed for the med-tech lobbying group's shindig. And on Monday, Dr. Jeffrey Shuren, head of the FDA's device division, was announced as a lunch speaker, as well.

It makes sense that Daniels will speak, since Indiana is a hot spot for orthopedic device-makers, and Shuren, of course, is a seminal figure in med tech.

We're unclear on what former President Bush will discuss -- it's former veep Dick Cheney who is a testament to medical technology with a heart defibrillator and stents. But we'll keep you posted.
