The Gophers scored three goals on their first six shots, then held on to edge Northeastern 4-3 on Saturday night at Mariucci Arena to sweep the nonconference series.

Hudson Fasching got the first goal for Minnesota (2-3), at 59 seconds, and the fourth, the eventual winner, on a power play with 1:22 left in the opening period.

Michael Brodzinski and Leon Bristedt had the Gophers' other goals, 17 seconds apart, beating Huskies goalie Ryan Ruck in the fourth minute.

"That's one of the things we focus on, the 10-minute game," Fasching said. "The first 10 minutes, making sure that we are coming out hard, that we are right on them. We are pressuring them as much as we can. That was big for us tonight."

Ruck got better after that early Gophers flurry, finishing with 28 saves.

His teammates started to play better, too.

John Stevens scored for Northeastern at 4:07 of the first period to cut the Gophers' lead to 3-1. Fasching, a junior forward, restored their three-goal margin with his second goal.

The Huskies (1-4) scored twice in the middle period on goals by Sam Kurker and Eric Williams while Vinni Lettieri of the Gophers was stopped on a penalty shot.

Minnesota freshman goalie Eric Schierhorn, who beat Northeastern 4-0 Friday, had 25 saves.
