Fasching named Big Ten hockey First Star of the Week

Gophers sophomore forward Hudson Fasching scored three points over the weekend and was named the Ice Breaker Tournament MVP.

Gophers sophomore forward Hudson Fasching was honored with the Big Ten First Star of the Week on Tuesday morning.

Fasching scored the eventual game-winning goal and contributed an assist in Friday's 4-3 Ice Breaker Tournament victory over Minnesota Duluth. He also scored a goal in Saturday's 3-0 championship victory over RPI and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Ohio State senior forward Tanner Fritz was the Big Ten' Second Star and Penn State junior goaltender Matthew Skoff was name the Third Star.

The Gophers are off with a bye this week and return to the ice Oct. 24-25 against Bemidji State at Mariucci Arena.
• Senior captain Kyle Rau was honored with the Henry L. Williams Award on Monday night at the annual Golden Gopher Fund scholarship banquet.

The award recognizes a male student-athlete who excels in competition and in the classroom while representing the values of the athletic department. Softball senior Kaitlyn Richardson was honored with the Patty Berg Legacy Award.

"We really can't thank you enough for all of the opportunities you have given each and every one of us," Rau said while addressing the audience. "To be able to put on that Gopher hockey jersey every night and represent the whole state of Minnesota means so much to me."
