The Vikings have reported to Mankato for training camp. One of the last ones to pull into campus was running back Adrian Peterson. But he’s here.
Just a few months ago, it seemed uncertain whether Peterson would be joining his teammates in Mankato. But Peterson said that throughout his offseason saga with the Vikings, he still knew there was a good chance he would be back here at Sears Hall, checking into a dorm with everyone else.
“I had visions of definitely being back here,” Peterson said. “I feel like things worked out in this situation, so I’m just happy that I’m here and happy to be a part of the Minnesota Vikings organization and to get back to our goal, and that’s bringing a championship to Minnesota.”
When Peterson parked his car and crossed the street to the dorm, the dozens of fans on hand burst into chants of “AP! AP! AP!” Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who was just wrapping up his podium session, heard the cheers and joined in, pumping his fist into the air as he did it.
“It felt good,” Peterson said. “It’s a good feeling, just to know the support that I’ve been receiving through the entire process. It was a good feeling.”
Peterson said it also felt good to get a new contract a few days ago. He figured his agent, Ben Dogra, and the team would be able to get something done before training camp. Now he has the security he was looking for.
“I feel like both parties are pleased. I’m excited we were able to get things done and it just shows the support that these guys have been showing me, that they believe in me and I believe in them, as well,” he said. “I’m looking forward this season, kicking things off and getting things back on track.”
