Face Time: Listener appreciation

The stars came out in force for the Starkey Foundation's annual gala.

July 31, 2011 at 12:24AM

At the star-studded event -- which included performances by Miley Cyrus, at right, and an appearance by former President Bill Clinton -- A-listers showed their support for the nonprofit, which has distributed more than 500,000 hearing aids to people in need since 2000.

In keeping with the event, we asked the celebrities making their way down the red carpet to share their favorite sounds. For actress Julia Ormond, it was "children laughing," a sentiment echoed by singer Reba McEntire. Mound native and actor Kevin Sorbo said he liked "the sound of wind chimes on a very lazy day" and Chris Massey declared himself a fan of "the violin -- even if it's the wrong notes."

Some celebrities sounded a more eclectic note. Kyle Massey referenced the signature sounds that accompany the opening credits of "Star Wars," while Jordin Sparks (who wore sky-high Jimmy Choos) said she adored the sound of "high heels clicking on the floor."

Crooner Garth Brooks claimed his favorite sound was his wife's snoring. "I love it," he said. "It makes me go to sleep, too. It's wonderful knowing that she's only doing that if she feels safe and knowing that she's getting great sleep because she goes 24/7 for everyone else."

Wait, that sounds like the start of a country song.
