Trinidad's famous carnival hit the shores of the Mississippi River as costumed revelers of Caribbean and South American heritage celebrated the 20th annual Carifest. The event included reggae performer Emmanuel Brown, calypso monarch Cyril Paul and chutney stars the Supertones.

There also were vendors who sold jerk chicken, escoveitch fish, chicken and vegetarian patties, as well as Caribbean specialty drinks such as sorrel and ginger beer.
