MINNEAPOLIS — The death of a motorist whose car got stuck in the snow in McLeod County may be weather related.
The sheriff's department says it received a report Monday of a man who had been missing since Sunday night. Sheriff's deputies and Stewart firefighters began searching for the man and found his body about two miles from his disabled vehicle on a road south of Stewart. Some drivers were forced to spend the night in shelters Sunday night, when blizzard-like conditions closed portions of the interstates and highways.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning as extreme cold and brisk winds pushed subzero temperatures to the 35 to 50 below range. Schools across the state canceled classes for a second consecutive day Tuesday.
