Thursday: Sandbox summer benefit

Theater costumes rarely have much to do with fashion because they're, well, costumes. But the local company Sandbox Theater has teamed up with local fashion designers to break down those boundaries for its production "The Horse, the Bird, the Monkey & the Dancer," opening in November. At this benefit for the production, guests can preview some of its designs -- created by notable Minneapolis designers Anna Lee, Kerry Riley and Laura Fulk -- as well as masks and characters.

Friday: The Foshay soiree

Be one of the first to celebrate the restoration of the Foshay Tower, reopening this month as the W Minneapolis hotel, in style. The art deco masterpiece was built in 1929 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The opening party will feature a Roaring '20s theme, with live swing music by Robert Bell's Hot Swing Combo with Maud Hixson, dance lessons by the Swing Cats, an auction and hors d'oeuvres. Proceeds will benefit the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota.
