FRIDAY

'Black Pearl Lounge'

Until recently, fashion designer Samantha Rei was best known for her designs under Blasphemina's Closet, one of the first online gothic-Lolita shops in the U.S. Last year, she rebranded under her own name to mark a shift away from those subcultures. While her ultrafeminine designs are still inspired by literature and historical fashion, they're now more wearable. She will debut her fall/winter 2015 collection in her first solo fashion show in four years. The cocktail dresses and eveningwear and will be paired with custom-made hats by Seattle's Apatico, styling by Haus Salon and jewelry by Realia by Jen. The evening also includes live music by "electro swing" act Vourteque and a photo booth. (7-11 p.m. Fri. $20-$60. Gale Mansion, 2115 Stevens Av. S., Mpls. www.eventbrite.com.) Jahna Peloquin

TUESDAY

Mardi Gras celebration
If you're craving a Hurricane's whimsy, celebrate Fat Tuesday with Smack Shack, which might be hung over from back-to-back second anniversary parties Monday and Sunday. The North Loop lobster house is slinging half-price Hurricanes and baking King Cakes to help soak them up. (Tue. Smack Shack, 603 Washington Av. N., Mpls., 612-259-7288, www.smack-shack.com.) Naughty Gras
Carnival is a big deal in the Netherlands, too, and St. Paul's Amsterdam Bar & Hall gets into the spirit with its Naughty Gras event. The pre-Lent party features the Jack Brass Band, burlesque and aerialist performances, plus a crayfish boil and beer from NOLA's Abita Brewing Co. (7 p.m. Tue. $12-$15, 6 W. 6th St., St. Paul, 612-285-3112, www.amsterdambarandhall.com.) M.R.

The No BS Brass! Band
7:30 p.m. • Cedar Cultural Center • $10-$12
The No BS Brass! Band carries a little cachet for Midwest music hipsters since trombonist/co-leader Reggie Pace also played in the Bon Iver band, but that's only a footnote to their foot-stomping sound. The other leader of the Richmond, Va.-based ensemble, Lance Koehler, did time in New Orleans and adapted the traditional brass revelry with a rowdier rock flavor. They're a nice little snag for the Cedar as a Fat Tuesday act. Chris Riemenschneider
FRIDAY-SATURDAY

MTN's 'Movin' on Up' Telethon

Before the public-access Minneapolis Television Network moves to a new Northeast location, it's hosting a first-ever 24-hour telethon, highlighting the producers, artists, entertainers and activists who have helped define the network. It will also mark the return of the infamously weird "Freaky Deeky," which aired for four years until 2012. Other highlights include MTN legend Ian Rans ("Drinking With Ian"), Fancy Ray McCloney, Viva and Jerry Beck of "Viva and Jerry's Country Music Videos," Mark Mallman doing impromptu tunes, live performances by Alexei Moon Casselle and Midway Felix, and an overnight sleep-in. A studio audience is invited to join in the hijinks from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. It will be broadcast live in Minneapolis on Comcast channels 16, 17 and 75, and on www.mtn.org. (Telethon: 2 p.m. Fri.-2 p.m. Sat. Public event: 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Fri., $5-$15 donation. MTN Studios, 125 SE. Main St. #244, Mpls. www.mtn.org.) J.P.
