Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival

For a sixth consecutive year, thousands of barleywine-seeking beer fiends will descend upon the Beer Dabbler's Winter Carnival edition. Now at the State Fairgrounds' midway, the winter dabbler features more than 150 local and national breweries, food trucks, a silent disco, live music and, for the first time, a heated warm-up station in the Warner Coliseum. V.I.D. tickets (very important dabbler, $99) include access to a separate heated tent with a handful of special brews, bottomless stew, a stocking cap and other perks. (3:30-7:30 p.m. Sat. $40-$50 general admission, $10 designated driver. www.beerdabbler.com.) Michael Rietmulder

SATURDAY-SUNDAY

Saintly City Cat Show

If the popular Internet Cat Video Festival makes one thing clear, it's that Minnesotans really love cats. And though it promises fewer LOLs than, say, a cat being fed with chopsticks or getting its head stuck in a cup, the Saintly City Cat Club's 39th annual Championship Cat Show has a paw up on the digital competition by giving you the IRL experience. More than 200 felines from the U.S. and Canada will compete for the titles of King and Queen in four classes (kittens, championship, premiership and household pets), representing up to 26 breeds including obscure ones such as Korat, British Shorthair and hairless Sphinx. (9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat., 9 a.m.-4 p.m Sun. $3-$4. Roy Wilkins Exhibition Hall, RiverCentre, 175 W. Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul. 651-455-8043 or www.theroy.org.) Jahna Peloquin
