Emerging Minnesota writers celebrated

The 2009 winners of the annual SASE/Jerome Foundation grants will be announced today at a 7 p.m. celebration that will also honor the 2008 recipients.

The grants of up to $5,000 are awarded to emerging Minnesota writers. The event is at Intermedia Arts, 2822 Lyndale Av. S., Minneapolis. A donation is requested.

The 2008 winners are Dhana-Marie Branton, a Minneapolis nonfiction writer and playwright; Charles Conley, a Minneapolis writer completing a collection of short stories; Elissa Elliott of Rochester, author of "Eve: A Novel of the First Woman"; Laura Flynn of Minneapolis, author of the memoir "Swallow the Ocean"; John Medeiros, a Minneapolis memoirist and writer-in-residence at the Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts in Fridley; Rachel Moritz, a Minneapolis poet and editor of WinteRed Press, and Matt Rasmussen, a Robbinsdale poet.
