Don Berry of Edinburgh USA defeated Matt Flaherty of University Golf Course 1 up over 19 holes to win the Minnesota PGA Senior Match Play Championship on Thursday at the Edina Country Club. It was the third time in four years that Berry has won this tournament.

Berry made a par on the extra hole, Flaherty missed his 10-foot putt for par.

Earlier, Berry won the Minnesota Senor Open and the Senior Section Championship.

U plays Badgers on pitch

The Gophers women's soccer team, which rose seven spots to No. 11 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll this week, will play Wisconsin in Madison on Friday.

Minnesota is 9-1-2 overall with a six-match winning streak and alone at the top of the Big Ten standings with a 4-0 record. The Badgers are 5-4-3, 2-1-1.

Junior Simone Kolander of the Gophers has a goal in each of the past four matches. The Gophers were unranked until rising to No. 18 last week.

• North Dakota will be the host school for one of the four men's hockey regionals in 2017, the NCAA announced. The West Regional will be held at the Scheels Arena in Fargo, N.D., from March 24-25. Other regionals will be held at Brown (East), Manchester, N.H. (Northeast) and Miami (Ohio) (Midwest).

• Gustavus will host the 30-team men's USTA/ITA Midwest Regional at seven sites in St. Peter and Mankato from Friday through Sunday. Mohanad Al-Houni of the Gusties is the second seed in singles and, with teammate Andrez Sanchez, is seeded second in doubles, too.

• Thousands of pieces of donated hockey equipment will be distributed free to local hockey families and hockey associations from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Xcel Energy Center to end the seventh annual used hockey equipment drive.

• Gophers sophomore Celia Kuenster is 28th in the most recent Division I rankings.
