Elijah (E.J.) Stephens, who played guard for four years at Lafayette, will transfer to the Gophers for his final season, the University of Minnesota men's basketball program announced.

Stephens, originally from Florida, averaged 9.9 points in 103 games. Stephens was seventh in the Patriot League in scoring (16.4) as a senior, 10th in assists (2.5) and second in free throw percentage (90.4%).

"Elijah is the kind of player that I love," Gophers coach Ben Johnson said. "He is an old soul and is a player who truly loves and respects the game. He has a tremendous basketball IQ. "
