The driver who died in a two-vehicle crash on an icy west metro highway was identified Tuesday as a 27-year-old woman from Bloomington.
Paige M. Duncan lost control of her car about 7:45 a.m. Monday on Hwy. 12 in Independence and slid across the centerline between the north and south junctions of County Road 92 and into the path of an oncoming car.
The driver of the other car suffered “moderate” injuries and was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, police said.
Authorities shut down the busy highway for about three hours while State Patrol investigators did their work. But unlike other recent fatal crashes along the stretch of road, the evidence suggests that “this was a weather-related crash” and not a result of the road’s design, said West Hennepin Public Safety Chief Gary Kroells.
