See if you can follow this labyrinth of details: Iranian-American DJ K-Salaam, a former Rhymesayers cohort who left Minneapolis for New York four years ago, has scored a top 10 hit on the iTunes reggae chart (yes, reggae chart!) with a track that samples the Police's "Roxanne" and features guest vocals by Jamaican stalwart Buju Banton and R&B singer Trey Songz. A collaboration with K-Salaam's NYC production partner Beatnik, the song is called "Street Life" and comes from a concept album ("Whose World Is This?") due July 29. The simple point of note is that it's one infectious and intelligent dance track.
