Days before releasing his first solo album, Neil Young truly connected with his audience at this intimate solo show, finally available as "Sugar Mountain: Live at the Canterbury House 1968." He's charmingly chatty, explaining that it took only five minutes -- and no rewrites -- to pen "Mr. Soul," whose darkness intensifies in this acoustic- guitar rendition. At 22, he sounded fresh, funny and far out for a folkie. This is the best of the three live albums he's recently released in his "Archive" series.
