A late-December heat wave is on tap with four to five days in the 40s between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Nobody wants to work with dulled or inadequate tools. A carpenter using rusty saws? A plumber getting a job done with duct tape? No. Meteorologists who are trying to keep people safe rely on cutting-edge research from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colo., which may be dismantled due to concerns about their research into the reality of climate change, which is amplifying extreme weather. If you want more accurate forecasts of hurricanes, tornadoes, flood, fires and solar storms to keep your family as safe as possible in coming years, keep an eye on what’s happening at NCAR.

One more time: There is no correlation between early December cold waves and what will happen the rest of the winter. I see a holiday heat wave (for late December) with four to five days in the 40s between Christmas and New Year’s Day. As much as 20 to 30 degrees above average. Any storms? No, just a few piddly clippers. I expect colder weather to return in January, but if you like snow, take full advantage of what’s left while you can.
