In recent days I’ve been serenaded by sump pumps and chain saws. Does rigorous chain-sawing count as an aerobic workout? Why not. A huge tree limb came down in our backyard during one of our severe storm straight-line wind events in recent days. Why should I catch a break? I’ve been infatuated with weather since my boyhood home in southeast Pennsylvania was flooded by Tropical Storm Agnes in 1972, but Mother Nature doesn’t like me very much. Most meteorologists were traumatized as kids by crazy weather. Weather forecasting became a coping skill.

After tracking rain and thunderstorms over far southern Minnesota on Wednesday, I get to unplug the Doppler for a few days. A high-pressure bubble of Canadian origin treats us to sunshine and low humidity Thursday into Saturday, with only a low probability of a pop-up thunderstorm Sunday. After waves of tropical deluges and tree-bending winds, we are finally entering a drier, quieter weather pattern.

Enjoy 70s Thursday into Monday. More 80s are inevitable, and I daresay we haven’t seen the last of the 90s.
