I am convinced that God gives at least one gift, one potential superpower, to each and every one of us. Remembering names is not my superpower. “Hey Paul, you talked to my class 37 years ago. What, you don’t remember me?” No, sadly, I do not.

Which reminds me of the late, great Hubert Humphrey who had an uncanny ability to remember names of people, even their spouses. Until it came out that the former vice president of the United States relied on a backstage assistant, whispering names into his ear to make sure he connected genuinely and warmly with constituents. Aha! Almost like a magic trick being revealed.

The Twin Cities National Weather Service reports 5.72 inches of rain Wednesday on the southwest side of Mankato. The forecast calls for deluges, interrupted by smoke.

We are limping into a drier pattern overall into next week. No complaints Friday with sunshine and mid-80s. The mercury flirts with 90 degrees this weekend with thunderstorms up north, reaching MSP on Sunday night. Next week looks mostly dry; 70s will feel good a week from now.
