“I like the muted sounds, the shroud of grey, and the silence that comes with fog,” wrote Indian writer Om Malik.

Foggy mornings will become more prevalent as we sail into September, as longer nights cool the air down to the dew point, resulting in “lazy clouds” that form on the ground — fog.

Except now when I wake up and peer out the window, I have to ask myself: Is that fog or smoke?

It’s been the worst year for wildfire smoke since 2023, and now blazes from Montana, Idaho and Washington are adding to the plumes aimed at Minnesota.

I look forward to cooler fronts, but they may arrive with a smoky aftertaste until snow puts down these blazes in late autumn.

If you crave summer warmth, enjoy low 80s into tomorrow, because temperatures may not climb out of the 60s for highs by Sunday and Monday. The first taste of fall.

In spite of a small shower risk Friday, weather looks dry for the State Fair into Sept. 1.

A two-week stretch of dry weather is not out of the question. Unplug my Doppler.
