Postseason football scored for NBC, ABC and Fox in the ratings the week of Jan. 4-10, but CBS held its own with its usual slate of scripted dramas and comedies.
The week's most-watched telecast was the NFL playoff game on NBC between Philadelphia and Dallas, which drew 32.1 million viewers. ABC's broadcast of the BCS National Championship Game between Texas and Alabama was seen by 30.8 million viewers.
Fox did well with the Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl, not to mention the 450th episode of "The Simpsons" and "The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special."
For the week, network averages were: NBC, 10.3 million viewers (6.2 rating, 10 share); Fox, 10.1 million (5.9, 9); CBS, 9.86 million (6.2, 10); ABC, 9.61 million (5.8, 9); ION, 1.20 million (0.8, 1); CW, 1.12 million (0.7, 1).
In the evening news race: NBC "Nightly News," 10.7 million (6.9, 12); ABC "World News," 9.4 million (6.2, 11); "CBS Evening News," 7.1 million (4.8, 8). (ABC's audience average is based on four days, omitting Thursday, when the newscast had lower coverage because of college football).
