Our friends over at Twin Cities Public Television have produced a new documentary about three innovative housing developments built for those Twin Citians living on limited incomes.

"Homes for All" will air 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19 on TPT and other public television affiliates in Minnesota , North Dakota and Wisconsin.

The hour-long documentary profiles Quarry View in Apple Valley, 45 townhomes developed by the Dakota County Development Agency; Forest Ridge Townhomes, a Duffy Development project in Forest Lake, and Hope Communities, a 173-unit rental complex at the intersection of Franklin and Portland avenues in Minneapolis developed by Hope Community and Aeon.

Jim Roth, executive director of the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers (a sponsor of the documentary) says it's time to "throw out old notions about affordable housing."

As Chip Halbach, executive director of the Minnesota Housing Partnership (another sponsor) notes, "This documentary tells the story of real people in real-life situationa who – with the security of a safe, affirming place to call home – can move forward and live independent lives." (A third sponsor is the Minnesota Community Land Trust Coalition.)

The Partnership estimates that one third of Minnesota households spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing. One in seven spend more than 50 percent of their income for a place to live.

A preview of the documentary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Wilder Center. For more information here's a link.
