THE PROBLEM Hip loft dwellers with three kids under the age of 2 decamped to the suburbs for space more keeping with their new lifestyle.
THE SOLUTION Create a grown-up entertainment space worlds away from diaper changes and 3 a.m. feedings that reflects the owners' Indian heritage, and could still double for play space.
HOW IT HAPPENED • Divided the room into zones for TV/media, lounging and play space. • Installed ebony console to hold TV. • Chose L-shaped sectional, slipper chairs in gold and cream paisley for seating.
• Layered polka-dotted sheers with velvety panels.
• Fashioned a lounge area with counter, storage cabinets and bar refrigerator.
• Defined kids' area with bench seating and toy storage that tucks behind gold silk drapes when not in use (not pictured).
BEST TRICK Used owner's collection of sparkly saris as an inspiration for black paisley wallpaper with metallic accents, brushed gold laminate countertop and metallic-backed sisal wallpaper.
