Strong winds howling across the Southwest today will cause numerous problems. The winds will whip through the region in response to a storm moving over the West. The winds will peak between 40 and 60 mph. The highest speeds will be measured this afternoon. Gusts past 60 mph are certainly not out of the question.

Airline passengers should be prepared for the winds to lead to flight delays. Poor travel is anticipated on area roads. The winds kicking up dust will cause visibility to turn poor rapidly. Dangerous crosswinds threaten to overturn or steer semi-trucks off roadways.

Winds of today's magnitude may also cause damage to outdoor structures. You should secure loose lawn furniture. Trees that get toppled by the winds could also down power lines. Power outages would result. A high fire danger exists from the Arizona deserts to West Texas due to the gusty winds.
