The train of snowstorms will shift southward from the flood-ravaged northern Plains. Denver and the central Plains will instead bear the brunt of the storms.

The storm currently pushing through the Rockies today will not intensify into a major blizzard; however, it will spread wet snow from Denver to Dodge City, Kan., this afternoon into Thursday morning. Roads will become slippery as a slushy 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulates. Bridges and overpasses would be the first to turn treacherous.

A more significant snowstorm threatens to target the Denver area on Saturday.

The potential even exists for the storm to strengthen into a dangerous blizzard. Weekend travel, both on the ground and in the air, would be severely disrupted. The treacherous conditions may spread farther east into the central Plains on Sunday. Residents and visitors planning to head to the nation's midsection are urged to check back with AccuWeather.com for the latest updates.
