Dayton says he hopes lawmakers send him medical marijuana bill with tight controls on access

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Gov. Mark Dayton says he's still hopeful lawmakers can fashion a medical marijuana compromise that gets help to ailing people but doesn't allow for access he fears would be too wide.

Dayton said Monday that he has top aides working with legislators on a bill that can become law. He says he's nervous about provisions in a Senate measure that would allow purchase of leaf-formed marijuana from at least two dozen distribution sites.

The Democratic governor has endorsed a House-passed version that has satisfied concerns of law enforcement and the state's doctor group.

Dayton says he's willing to accept some Senate provisions but would ultimately "do what I think is right for Minnesota."
