I’m still amazed Minnesota can get this hot, considering winter lake ice is thick enough to drive your SUV on and negative windchills are a January fixture.
Sunday will range from stinking hot to obnoxiously hot, and for some, dangerously hot.
An excessive heat warning is posted for most of central and southern Minnesota on Sunday, including the metro area, where the much-hyped “urban heat island” will make it feel 5 to 10 degrees hotter than outlying suburbs.
Factoring highs in the low to mid 90s and a dew point in the mid 70s, it will feel like 100-105 degrees out there later Sunday.
The risk of heat exhaustion and sometimes-fatal heat stroke will be high. Stay hydrated and don’t think about leaving kids or pets in a hot car, where temperatures can rise to 125 degrees or higher in only minutes.
Thunderstorms are possible Sunday night; Monday promises a few degrees cooler. A T-storm Tuesday marks the leading edge of a comfortable front.
Dew points by Wednesday will be in the 50s, meaning half as much water in the air as there will be Sunday. Whew.
