RANDOM DANCE

Tuesday: British choreographer Wayne McGregor returns with Random Dance for another stimulating foray into the relationship between dance and technology. "FAR" (2010) draws from 18th-century Enlightenment studies into the body-mind relationship, but transports the ideas a few hundred years to our brave new world. McGregor collaborated with cognitive scientists as well as Australian composer Ben Frost to create a daring work that unfolds within an installation emphasizing light and shadow. Based on Random Dance's last visit to the Twin Cities in 2009, expect drop-dead beautiful visuals within the choreography as well as the stage environment. (7:30 p.m. Tue., with a 6:45 p.m. free pre-show discussion next door at Solera, $37-$59, Orpheum Theatre, 910 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls., 1-800-745-3000 or 612-624-2345, ticketmaster.com or northrop.umn.edu.)
