Cuban-born Eduardo Vilaro founded Chicago's Luna Negra Dance Theater in 1999 with the goal of presenting contemporary dance works by Latino choreographers. The troupe's Ordway stop will feature Fernando Melo's "Bate," pictured, which draws on the melodrama of Brazilian soap operas and the hyper-masculine samba, plus "Flabbergast," a commentary on stereotypes and travel by Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, and "Paloma Querida," an homage to Frida Kahlo from Michelle Manzanales. A pre-show discussion at 6:30 p.m. will focus on Latino identity in 21st-century performance.
