LIVE ACTION SET

Thursday-next Sunday: Last year Live Action Set scored an Ivey Award for "The 7-Shot Symphony," and now the ensemble is back with a new work, "Basic North: A Performance in Three Directions." Promising a return to the troupe's movement and mask roots, the show is divided into three chapters, directed by Dario Thompson, Noah Bremer (fresh off a stint with Cirque du Soleil) and Emily King with Ryan Underbakke, respectively. The themes range widely -- from bottled-up messages to riffs on the 8-bit Nintendo soundtrack -- and will likely intertwine. Expect more creative risk-taking from a company that continually -- and bravely -- refines its experimental theatrical voice. (Previews 8 p.m. Thu.-Fri. Opens 8 p.m. Sat., 7 p.m. next Sun. $15-$28. Ends July 8. Southern Theater, 1420 Washington Av. S., Mpls. 612-340-0155, www.southerntheater.org or www.liveactionset.org.)
