During the mid-20th century, Cairo was considered the Hollywood of the Middle East. Movie musicals were the most popular feature of Egypt's contributions to film history, and now Jawaahir Dance Company is drawing upon this rich entertainment tradition for a new work, "Golden Nights on the Silver Screen." Choreographer Cassandra Shore (pictured), Kathy McCurdy, Helen Voelker and Peg Deppe are creating pieces in the style of the old movies as well as offering a more contemporary take on the genre. The dancers will be joined by the Georges Lammam Ensemble, featuring Arabic musicians from across the country and abroad. See clips from some of the Egyptian film classics in the lobby before the show.
