Dance leaps out all over this weekend

HIJACK (Kristin Van Loon and Arwen Wilder) team up again with New Orleans-based dance/performance artist Scott Heron for "Dance Show #5." The evening includes Heron's solo "Lights up a tragedy," a journey through multiple states of mind, plus "Hijack's Pink," a tongue-in-cheek nod to branding, and "Mr. Hijack" featuring Tom Lloyd and Craig VanTrees.

Choreographer Sarah LaRose-Holland of Kinetic Evolutions and Grammy award-winning jazz pianist Butch Thompson team up for "Destination Twin Cities," a time-traveling journey through Minnesota history. Venture from Swede Hollow to the jazz bars of the 1960s that once defined local counterculture. Presented by Jazz88 KBEM radio.

Savitha Sastry brings two solo Bharatanatyam dance theater performances to the Southern Theater. "Soul Cages," a journey through the mysteries of life, death and the world beyond, will be seen Friday, while "Yudh," which looks at a battle between equals, runs on Saturday. Original stories and script by A.K. Srikanth with music from composer Rajkumar Bharati.

Ballet of the Dolls heads south of the border with "Cabaret Nudista," a two-week celebration of the unique musical sounds of Tijuana, Mexico — from Manuel Enriquez to Pedro Infante and more. This new work created by Myron Johnson includes contributions from various company members.

With "Spirit of Ukraine," the 60-member Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Ensemble brings folk dances from various regions in a program that strives to capture cultural authenticity through costumes, music and movement.
