Winds will whip from the central Great Lakes to the central Appalachian Mountains today, then the eastern Great Lakes and mid-Atlantic tonight. More of the Northeast will get buffeted Saturday. Gusty winds, however, will not develop over northern New England until Saturday night.
Gusts will blow strong enough to bring down trees and power lines. Power outages would result. Additional damage would ensue if trees land on cars or other structures.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to use extreme caution. Winds threaten to overturn or steer semi-trucks off roadways. Drivers of smaller cars will even feel winds tug on their vehicles.
