The average price received for Minnesota corn was $3.25 per bushel in September, down 21 cents from the previous month and down $2.44 from September 2013 when corn was selling for $5.69 per bushel.

Minnesota was a bit below the rest of the nation, where average corn prices were $3.38 per bushel in September compared to $5.40 a year ago.

The latest USDA figures were released Monday and also show declines in other crop prices. They are considered preliminary because all data from the month are not available yet.

Minnesota soybean prices averaged $11.80 per bushel, down 80 cents from August and down $1.50 from the previous September.

Spring wheat prices for the month averaged $5.30 per bushel, down 55 cents from August and $1.36 below September 2013.

Hay was also much lower, with alfalfa hay at $125 per ton in September compared to $190 per ton a year ago.

Milk was one of the few products in the state with higher values. September's average price was $26.20 per hundredweight, up $2 from August and $6 higher than in September 2014.

Monthly prices are tracked by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
