Critic's choice

Holiday gifts There are many ways to celebrate Christmas Eve (aside, of course, from my family's tradition of bobbing for apples in eggnog). For those looking for a crackling, old-fashioned experience, enjoy the "Yule Log" (7 p.m., KSTC, Ch. 45 and 8 p.m.,WGN) ablaze all night. Those desiring something a bit more elegant can opt for the double whammy of "Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring the King's Singers" (8 p.m., KTCA, Ch. 2) and "Christmas at St. Olaf: Where Peace and Love and Hope Abide" (9 p.m., KTCA, Ch. 2). For the younger set, try "Christmas on Mars" (11 p.m. Sundance, although times may vary depending on your cable provider), a feature-film fable from The Flaming Lips.

The 'never' ending story All I really want for Christmas is for Bond fans to stop harping on 1983's "Never Say Never Again" (4:30 p.m., Spike), Sean Connery's tongue-in-cheek, long-in-the-tooth return to the classic character. Don't take it seriously, and it's a ball.
