Critic's choice: This week

Sunday An annual highlight of the Discovery Channel is the special programming broadcast for "Shark Week." The weeklong series begins with "Mythbusters: Shark Special" (8 p.m.), with "Mythbuster" series hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman using experimentation to investigate myths about the creatures.

Monday "The Recruiter" (8 p.m., HBO) follows the efforts of Army Sgt. Clay Usie working with four high school recruits in a small Louisiana town before, during and after their basic training and then the subsequent deployment of some to Iraq.

Tuesday

Jack Carter is installed as the town sheriff in the third-season premiere of "Eureka" (8 p.m., Sci Fi) and is stymied by the new head of top research facility Global Dynamics in his investigation into the inner workings of the business.

Wednesday

The "housewives" docudrama series moves south for the next version, "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" (11 p.m., Bravo). The women, all members of Atlanta's social elite, will be introduced in a 30-minute preview following a rebroadcast of "Project Runway."

Thursday

This is the last scheduled broadcast for the limited-time documentary series "Hopkins" (9 p.m., KSTP, Ch. 5), an ABC News production that follows the work of the medical staff at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the emotions shared by co-workers and families.
