A broad area from the central Plains to the western flank of the Appalachians will get thoroughly soaked during the next several days. Very moist air oozing northward from the Gulf of Mexico will be picked up by a series of low pressure waves tracking toward the northeast. None of the storms will be particularly strong, but you don't need much when the atmosphere contains a lot of water vapor.

Widespread rainfall of 1-2 inches can be expected between now and Saturday and from central Oklahoma toward the Ohio River Valley, rainfall could be as much as 5 or 6 inches. This will surely lead to major trouble from flash floods.
