Cornerback recruit decommits from Gophers

Shamaur McDowell, a three-star cornerback recruit from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., announced Thursday that he is rescinding his verbal commitment to the Gophers, GopherIllustrated.com reported.

"I would like to thank the University of Minnesota coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to go to their school but I will be reopening my recruiting process and exploring my options,'' the 5-11, 185-pound senior wrote.

McDowell had committed to the Gophers on June 11. He also had offers from Power Five schools Iowa State, North Carolina State, Purdue and Washington State.
