MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS

Regis Corp., Edina, completed the acquisition of the PureBeauty and BeautyFirst salon operations. The PureBeauty and BeautyFirst operations consist of 63 company-owned locations and 51 franchise locations operating in 20 states.

NEW PRODUCTS

The law firm of Hellmuth & Johnson in Minneapolis has launched www.mymedicalcase.com, a Web resource focused on providing information and resources to individuals and families harmed by medical malpractice, catastrophic personal injury or wrongful death. This includes families of children with cerebral palsy or other birth injuries, and others who have been seriously injured as a result of malpractice or the negligence of others.

NEW BUSINESS

Lawson Software, St. Paul, said that Torchmark Corp. has licensed its S3 Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management and Enterprise Performance Management software in addition to the Lawson System Foundation 9 technology platform to support its long-term growth.

Verizon Wireless has activated two new Minnesota cell sites, in Cottage Grove and Faribault, that expand network coverage and increase capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; and download games and ringtones while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

DEBT AND EQUITIES

Xcel Energy Inc., Minneapolis, declared a quarterly dividend on its common stock of 23 cents per share, payable April 20 to shareholders of record on March 2.

PERSONNEL MOVES

Ceridian Corp., Bloomington, has named Michael Sheridan executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. Sheridan was formerly general counsel of Comdata and its subsidiaries, including Stored Value Solutions.
