Community garden tours

It's harvest season, and the many community gardens in the Twin Cities are ready to share their bounty. On Sept. 19, Community Garden Day, more than three dozen gardens and urban agriculture projects will be open for visiting. The tours highlight old and new gardens throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul and the suburbs. Each garden will be hosting its own unique garden celebration, with things to taste, opportunities to learn and activities just for fun.

Apple-tasting at the Arb

What makes for a great apple? University of Minnesota apple scientists are interested in your opinion. During four upcoming Apple-Tasting Weekends, visitors will be invited to taste-test U of M research apples and rate them for flavor, size, texture and more. Apple-Tasting will take place 1 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 19 and 20, Sept. 26 and 27, Oct. 3 and 4, and Oct. 10 and 11 in the Oswald Visitor Center at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Dr., in Chaska.
