Bungalow club picnic

If you love bungalows, here's a chance to learn about them -- and chat with folks who share your passion. The Twin Cities Bungalow Club is planning a picnic social Sept. 1. Eric Hart, author of "Neighborhood by the Falls -- A Look Back at Life in Longfellow," will discuss the history of one of the Twin Cities' most popular bungalow neighborhoods.

The club will provide food (sandwich fixings, salads, drinks and desserts). The social and picnic will be held at Pavilion C in the Wabun Picnic Area of Minnehaha Park, Mpls., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Outdoor Fireplace 101

With August winding down, it's time to get fired up for fall. If you'd like to add an outdoor fireplace to your landscape, you can learn how at Gertens. Glen Nevala of Rochester Concrete will demonstrate how to build one using the company's line of fireplace kits.

The free workshop, including a grilling demonstration and snacks provided by Barrel O' Fun, runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gertens, 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights.

Antique fair in Rochester

Like antiquing? Sunday is the final day of the "Gold Rush" in Rochester. The event includes 1,300 booths in nine buildings, as well as outdoor dealers covering 52 acres of the Olmsted County Fairgrounds. Items will include china, porcelain, glassware, clocks, jewelry, toys, linens, vintage clothing, coins and much more. Food vendors also will be on hand.

Gold Rush hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free; there is a $5 charge to park your car. The fairgrounds are at the junction of Hwys. 63, 52 and 14 in Rochester.
