On the road or at home, the Cleveland Indians won't lose. Their winning streak — now at 16 — rolls on.
Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run homer in the first inning and the host Indians extended the longest winning streak in franchise history — and the longest in the majors in 15 years — by beating the Baltimore Orioles 5-0 Friday night.
"We're having a lot of fun here," said Mike Clevinger (9-5), who recorded his third consecutive start of six scoreless innings.
Back from going 11-0 on the road, Cleveland began a 10-game homestand by giving up only four hits to the Orioles.
Cleveland's string is the longest in the majors since Oakland won 20 in a row in 2002. The longest winning streak in major league history is 21 by the 1935 Chicago Cubs.
Not only have the Indians not lost since Aug. 23, they have trailed only twice in 144 innings during the streak and have outscored opponents 114-28.
"They're playing pretty good baseball," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said in a classic understatement.
The Orioles fell three games behind the Twins in the AL wild-card scramble.
