Cleveland ace Shane Bieber was the unanimous winner of the AL Cy Young Award on Wednesday night, and former Indians teammate Trevor Bauer became the first player to take home the NL honor for the Cincinnati Reds.
The Twins' Kenta Maeda finished second and the Blue Jays' Hyun Jin Ryu was third.
Maeda's runner-up finish is the highest by a Twin since Johan Santana's second Cy Young victory in 2006. He's only the third Twins pitcher to receive a vote on the three-pitcher ballot in the past decade, joining Ervin Santana, who finished seventh in the balloting in 2017, and Phil Hughes, seventh in 2014. And Maeda is the first Twin to finish second since Scott Erickson, runner-up to Roger Clemens in 1991.
Bieber went 8-1 with a 1.63 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 77 innings during the pandemic-shortened season, leading the majors in ERA and strikeouts and tying Yu Darvish for the most wins.
Bauer went 5-4 with an NL-best 1.73 ERA in 11 starts, helping the Reds reach the playoffs for the first time since 2013. The 29-year-old righthander struck out 100 in 73 innings and led the majors with two shutouts, a pair of seven-inning performances on doubleheader days.
The Cubs' Darvish finished second and the Mets' Jacob deGrom was third.
• Righthander Marcus Stroman has indicated he will accept the Mets' $18.9 million qualifying offer to stay with the team for 2021.
• Righthander Josh Tomlin is staying with the Braves, agreeing to a one-year contract that guarantees $1.25 million.
