Opening: Jon Hegge (left), Dieter Bierbrauer and Paul Coate star in Leonard Bernstein's "On the Town" during Skylark's annual summer festival, which starts Friday. The three sailors get off ship and immediately head out through "New York, New York," which is a helluva town where the Bronx is up but the Battery is down. Comden and Green wrote the script for this musical, which is much-loved but rarely done in these parts. Running in repertory will be "The Vagabond King," a 1925 opera by Rudolf Friml. It stars the real-life married team of Jeffrey Madison and Vicki Fingalson. Bob Neu is staging "On the Town" and Kristin Kenning is directing "The Vagabond King." "Vagabond" leads off Friday.

  • 8 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 3 p.m. next Sun. $25-$43. Ends June 19. E.M. Pearson Theatre, Concordia University, 312 N. Hamline Av., St. Paul. 612-343-3390, or www.ticketworks.com
