'MARIAN ANDERSON: A MUSICAL MEMOIR'

Sunday: For this year's Witness concert in celebration of Black History Month, VocalEssence presents "Marian Anderson: A Musical Memoir." Contralto Anderson broke the color barrier at the Metropolitan Opera in 1955. In 1963, she performed as part of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s March on Washington, the setting of the production, where Anderson becomes a powerful role model to a young person by sharing her life story. Jon Cranney directs soprano Marlissa Hudson, along with actors Greta Oglesby and Andrea Ivy, in this staging. (4 p.m. Sun. Ordway Center, 5th and Washington Sts., St. Paul. $10-$40. 651-224-4222 or www.vocalessence.org.)
